Maori Language week

As you may know, this week is Maori language week. Room 5 have been working on learning and using new words and phrases in our classroom. Here is a list of some simple kiwaha (sayings) and kupu (words) that we have been using;

Wāhi Pāngarau- Maths area
Wāhi Pānui- Reading area
Wāhi tuhituhinga- Writing area
Nau mai, haere mai ki te rūma rima- Welcome to room five!

'Ngā rā o te wiki' (The days of the week)


Rāhina- Monday
Rātū- Tuesday
Rāapa- Wednesday
Rāpare- Thursday
Rāmere- Friday
Rāhoroi- Saturday
Rātapu- Sunday


'Ngā marama o te tau' (The months of the year)

Kohi-tātea- January
Hui-tānguru- February

Whakawetongia te pouaka whakaata
Turn off the T.V

You should go to bed (name)!
